Notes to Walkers

If you are leading a walk, ensure it is no longer or more difficult than you have stated on the published programme. Have a shorter version in mind in case the weather deteriorates. Make sure you all have suitable clothing and footwear and carry plenty of refreshments.
Take all litter home, including banana skins and orange peel etc. leave the picnic area tidy. Do not throw stones down hills or into open shafts – you never know who might be below! We would like to reiterate that Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times including break times and not allowed to hinder walkers when negotiating stiles. Please check with the leader that the walk is dog friendly.
We have been asked to include 3 stops on each long walk and each programme now includes an easier long walk to encourage more walkers to try out a long walk.
Please note: -Our Constitution was amended at the AGM April 2018. So children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility on all club activities. Check this website for our latest approved constitution.
The club’s insurance policy only covers public liability. Please arrange your own cover if you want personal accident insurance as you join all our activities at your own risk.
We strongly recommend you also take out your own holiday insurance due to the cancellation policies of the YHA and other accommodation providers; if you have to cancel you could lose all or part of your money.
Walkers must be responsible for their own safety and for their fellow walkers: if you notice something isn’t right tell the leader; if you become separated stay where you are until found.

Pathwatch App

If you come across a blocked path, broken stiles or any other footpath problem you can now report it via an app that works with Apple and Android smartphones or tablets. Go to Ramblers Yorkshire
and at the top of the front page go to Pathwatch “report a path problem” and you can download the app for free. Please notify any member of the committee when you have done so.

First Aid App

The British Red Cross has produced a very helpful First Aid App suitable for smartphones and it’s free and easy to download. Go to the appstore in your phone and search British Red Cross App and it will pop up ready to download.

Travel and Parking Costs

Up to 30 miles – £4
31 – 60 miles – £5
61 – 100 miles – £6
Over 100 miles by special arrangement
Parking Charges: Please note, passengers are kindly asked to share any parking charges with the driver.
Note to Drivers: We offer a car share scheme from Morrisons Car Park. This is to assist our non drivers and a few of our members who find driving too stressful. This only works fairly if you do your fair share of the driving. Several of us only live a short distance from the car park but we still get our cars out so we can do our share. So please don’t wait to be asked; your passengers will always contribute their share of the fuel costs and bring carrier bags for their dirty footwear and clothing.

Club Archive, Photograph Album and Log Books

The club’s photograph album and log books have been passed on to The Morley Archive, which now has a home in Morley Market. Tom has kindly offered to be contact for any enquiries.
If you are leading a walk, please try and do a brief log of the walk, mentioning particularly any amusing/interesting incidents and also, if possible, a photograph or two. Don’t forget there is a club trophy for the best log of the year.

Lyme Disease (Walkers please be aware)

Lyme disease is an infection that derives from a tick bite. A tick is a small, blood-sucking mite. Normally it lives on blood from larger animals, like deer, but it may also attach itself to humans. The tick sits on tall grass and trees, waiting for a possible ‘host’ to walk by. If a tick attaches itself to someone, it will typically find its way to a warm, moist and dark place on the body. Tweezers are the best way to remove it. For further information visit lyme disease action

Volunteer Leaders for Walks

We are always keen to have volunteers to lead walks. Please contact Ian Pickering (contact details in your newsletter sent by e mail or post) He will fit your walk into the programme and can let you have maps and any other details if necessary.
Leader appeal
Although the new Walks List has 19 leaders, we cannot have too many so, please do not hesitate to volunteer. There is plenty of help available among the experienced leaders and it’s always nice to see new leaders on the walks sheet.
Shadowing a Leader
For anyone who is a bit nervous of leading a walk we are proposing to offer a chance to try their hand at it by shadowing a leader prior to the walk, if you are interested please contact Ian or any leader and they will give you all the support needed.
Important notes to all walk leaders
Please put your mobile phone number and the postcode for the parking place if possible on the direction sheet you hand out to all drivers on the morning of your walk. It would be a great help if everyone remembers to do this.

Wednesday Walks

A number of club members walk almost every Wednesday, the walk being advertised the Monday before by e mail. We meet as usual at Morrisons, the usual walk rules applying.
If you would like to join us, please contact Andy Bell who will then add you to the circulation list. If a walk takes your fancy we just ask you confirm your attendance. Walks on other days are in the walks list.

Ramblers Partnership

We are affiliated to the Ramblers Association and have a walking partnership with them. There is a link to their walking holidays on our website and if anyone books a Ramblers Holiday they just need to nominate Morley Walking club and we will get a donation to club funds. This is a great help toward club funds.
The donation will be £10 per person on a Great Britain Holiday, £20 per person on Short Haul and £30 per person on Long Haul, all at no extra cost to you. So if you are booking a Ramblers Trip do nominate Morley Walking Club as any money we raise always gets used for the benefit of the club and its members.
